The Phoenix

Phoenix-PendantThe Phoenix  is the symbol I would like to share with you today. A beautiful symbol that has become  highly popular among different cultures, for its representation of re-birth and immortality. Legend says that this beautiful mythological bird lives in cycles of 500 years. At the end of each cycle, it creates a special nest of scented herbs which is then set on fire. The phoenix then lies on this fire, burning to ashes. After three days, the phoenix is re-born to a new life.  Its name comes from a Greek word that means “red” and after its re-birth, its feathers are said to become golden or multi-colored.

The phoenix is linked to the Egyptian bird known as Bennu, worshiped in Ancient Egypt. The Bennu was a self-created being said to have played a role in the creation of the world. It was said to have flown over the waters of Nun that existed before creation, landing on a rock and issuing a call that determined the nature of creation, impersonating the Sun God, Ra. It was also a symbol of rebirth and was therefore associated with Osiris.

In ancient Rome, the phoenix became a symbol of renewal and vital energy for the Empire. It was represented in coins and mosaics. Priests saw it as a symbol of the immortal soul and the ressurrection of Christ.

In Alchemy it represents annihilation and the production of new substances  through metamorphosis  of the primary material, searching to become the philosopher’s stone.

In ancient China, the phoenix is associated with the legendary bird “feng-huang”, in which the ying and yang find harmony and completion, despite the nature of their duality.

The phoenix is an inspiration to all of us. Transformation and purification of the soul come when we decide to let go of parts of our old existence and beliefs.
To many a Phoenix may represent a new beginning, that no matter how bad (hot) things may get you will get back up on your feet (rise out of the ashes).
The Phoenix always rises from its own ashes and it can be a metaphor for always picking yourself up when you are down.

Birds can fly and travel through the Air element. They have been, since ancient times, symbolic representations of mind and Spirit. Therefore, when the Phoenix “gives up” its old and completed self, it does so because it is ready to be transformed and reborn unto a much higher realm. The Phoenix Symbolizes the ultimate act of creative destruction, sacrifice, and rebirth within the sublime realm of mind and Spirit.

Rhodizite Power

floweroflife-antique2I have just finished some special designs that incorporate two of my favorite energy boosters: the flower of life symbol and the little Rhodizite gem. In almost 15 years working with healing crystals I never thought one such tiny little stone could have such an incredible amount of energizing power. I must confess I used to be a little skeptical of tiny stones. When I would purchase stock for my crystal shop I usually overlooked the little pieces and went into getting the most robust and impressive looking crystals. One of my customers’ frequent question was: does crystal size matter? And I went on with explanations that it really depended on the purpose and how one was using a stone. According to Marcel Voguel, only a very small input of a cosmic vibration in someone’s energy field is necessary to fire up an entire wave of energy changes. Think of it as a sparkle that is all that is needed to start a fire. However, I myself used to judge some crystals by their looks. That all changed one afternoon when David, one of my stone suppliers, showed up with his crystal truck and those huge beauties that were almost too big to fit in my store. He piled up a number of boxes in my office and after a few hours of delicious crystal picking I had made up my mind for a special selection of crystals to re-stock the store. Then comes the question: do you know Rhodizite? I said no… he said, ‘this is one of the most powerful stones I have ever sold, you need to have it’. ‘Ok, let me see’, I said. Then he showed me this tiny little yellow green crystal and when I heard it cost the same as a pound of amethyst I rushed to say “not this time David”. I wasn’t impressed and just by looking at it I thought it couldn’t be all that he was saying. That is when he insisted that I test it. He told me to stand up, hold one in each hand, close my eyes and relax. I then began to feel this strange sensation like little bubbles of energy moving up and down my body, and something pulling me down, a very strong grounding sensation. I felt like all of my chakras began to respond really quickly to that little moment with Rhodizite. It was quite the experience. Needless to say, I fell in love with the tiny crystal.

Rhodizite is an energy amplifier. It makes you feel powerful and centered. It is said to have been a master crystal in the ancient times of Lemuria and Atlantis and that it was used to amplify and charge other crystals. Then comes the question, can it amplify negative feeling as well? I personally have never found that it does. I have worn my Rhodizite pieces day and night and have always found that it always helps bring up the best in me. It is an intention holder and it will work to amplify, strengthen and project a particular thought or energy. I find that Rhodizite most powerful property is to help align and move energies up and down our chakra system. It is also a solar plexus booster, helping manifest confidence, creative ideas and personal power into action and positive influence. In the Book of Stones, Simmons says that Rhodizite is a perfect stone to use in energy tools and jewelry because of its magnifying properties and that hands-on healers can increase the flow coming through them by wearing a Rhodizite ring or pendant around the neck. It is also said that it will enhance and strengthen any of the chakras and will facilitate psychic abilities and activate the third eye when placed on that energy center.

Rhodizite is also a great stone to use in combination with grounding crystals such as hematite, onyx and black tourmaline to ground the Light body onto the Earth and assist in dream work and lucid dreaming. Some use it for past-life regression to help process lessons learned in those times.

If you want to feel more optimistic, positive and have a super dose of high joyful energy, Rhodizite is definitely one stone to wear. It will bring out powerful enthusiasm and the will to make things happen!

Crystal healing works as spiritual support to assist in activating the healer within. It is not a substitute for any medical or psychological treatment and may be used in combination with any traditional therapies.

Benefits of the Gemstone Fluorite

Helps against colds, boosts the immune system, brings clarity of thought, focus, concentration and insight.

In the many years I have worked with healing crystals I came across a wide range of stones that bring a wonderful ray of sunshine to our energy field when we are suddenly attacked by a cold virus.
One of these crystals is the beautiful gemstone FLUORITE.
The name Fluorite derives from the Latin noun fluo, meaning a stream or flow of water. In verb form this was fluor or fluere, meaning to flow.
Its beautiful hues of greens, blues and purples are soothing and energizing and make us feel as we are ourselves flowing in a stream of crystalline water.

Fluorite (also called fluorspar) is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It comes in a wide range of colors and has subsequently been considered “the most colorful mineral in the world”. Its hardness on the Mohs scale falls between 4 and 5
(comparing- quartz is 7 and diamond 10), which makes it a soft and delicate mineral. Besides its use in adornments and jewelry, fluorite crystals are also used in telescopes for the magnification of high resolution images of astronomical objects.

A beautiful multi-purpose stone that will help boost your immune response and relieve some of those horrible symptoms a cold virus usually brings. Fluorite is also a good crystal for those seeking clarity of thought, focus, concentration and insight. It can help absorb and neutralize negative energy and stress.

The Healing Powers of Copper

Healing with CopperThe word copper comes from the Latin word cuprum and this derives from the Greek work Kyprus. The Island of Cyprus was in antiquity the principal source of copper, and so the metal was named after it. Copper is also linked to the planet Venus and therefore represents feminine energy, love and the water element.

Pure copper is a metal of reddish-pink hue, and has a warm, beneficial glow which contrasts with the cold glint of steel. With something made out of iron one may feel ‘how strong’ or ‘how useful’, whereas with something made out of copper, the first impression is more aesthetic. Whether it is a copper bowl, a trumpet, or a green-domed copper roof, it is the visual appearance rather than the utility of the metal which first strikes one. It is such a soft and pliable metal that it needs to be alloyed with other metals, into brass or bronze, before it can be used for a structural purpose.
The names of the ores of copper point to gentle Venus qualities: azurite, malachite, turquoise, chalcopyrite and peacock ore.

Various forms of copper have been used for medicinal purposes throughout the history of mankind.

Copper is a trace element (Cu) which has been well accepted for its reported healing properties and its role in defending our bodies against infection.
As an antioxidant, Copper (especially when combined with vitamin C) seeks out damaging particles in the body which are known as free radicals. Free radicals occur naturally in the body and can damage cell walls and interact with genetic material. Free radicals are believed to contribute to the aging process. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause. Copper is also said to aid in the stabilization of metabolism and can also be of benefit to the lungs, improving the exchange of oxygen and filtering out pollutants.
Copper and other essential trace minerals cannot be formed by the human body. These minerals must be ingested in the diet or absorbed by the skin.

The antimicrobial properties of Copper have been known for more than five millennia. Ancient Egyptians used copper pipes to transport water to destroy parasites and other water-borne pathogens. Shipbuilders have used copper for thousands of years to keep algae from encrusting on the hulls of ships. French vintners have used a copper sulfate compound to fight fungus on grapevines for hundreds of years.
Copper is vital for: haemoglobin synthesis, connective tissue maturation especially in thecardiovascular system and in bones, proper nerve function and bone development. Copper plays a part in: lipid metabolism, arthritis and inflammatory disorders. Many western diets are low in copper, so supplements are beneficial.
Evidence has been presented to suggest that metallic copper in the form of copper bracelets may be effective in relieving arthritic discomfort. It is now accepted that dissolution of copper in sweat can be followed by absorption through the skin and that this provides a mechanism for direct, and possible local, copper supplementation and thereby a plausible explanation of the benefit of copper bracelets.

Copper, the metal of love, Venus and the water element is one of our favorite choices for metal charms, bracelets and wire wrapped crystals.

About Crystals and Gemstones

Healing Crystal

Crystals and Gemstones have been used for many thousands of years as powerful healing aids. They have been worn as jewelry, amulets or used as objects for decoration, meditation, worship and healing rituals.
Gemstones and Crystals all originate from hot magma, of which the inside of the earth is composed.
Thousands, sometimes millions of years cooling, gradual movement and displacement have formed stones, rocks and even high mountains. This continuous natural process of geologic change causes rocks, minerals and stones of various kinds to come into being. They have been formed from dust, sand, chemical substances and invisible acids that have mutated when in contact with water and other environmental factors.

Why do gemstones and crystals have exerted such a fascination on human beings? Maybe because by wearing a crystal or a gem we are somehow approaching ourselves to our utmost essence: nature, transformation and beauty.

The alternative therapy of crystal healing is nothing new. It is actually thousands of years old. There have been some evidence found that gemstones and crystals were used for healing purposes by some ancient civilizations. Some of these civilizations also considered the stones and crystals to have protective and talismanic properties that would attract some natural energies to their bearer or protect against the evil eye ( harm caused to your energetic harmony by someone’s envy or unstable energetic levels ). Shamans and medicine men made use of the power of crystals and gems in healing rituals and ceremonies.

Crystals and Gemstones also have some significance in the Bible. They appear often as symbols for health and godliness. The twelve tribes of Israel are represented by twelve corresponding precious stones. The stones are to be arranged in four rows of three stones. According to later tradition they possessed extraordinary powers. In John’s vision of the New Jerusalem in Revelation, the heavenly city is built from gemstones. (Rev 21:18-21).

From a more modern perspective, if we look around us, the power of crystals cannot be denied. They are used everywhere in the world for many different purposes. Computers, telecommunication, memory chips and many other symbols of the technological age many times use silicon dioxide : quartz. Ultrasound devices, oscillatives for controlling radio devices and electronic equipment, capacitators to modify energy capacity and transducers that transmit energy from one system to another , and other equipment that store energy all depend on quartz to function.

Crystals, gemstones and minerals can be powerful tools in teaching us how to heal ourselves. Their energy frequencies vary according to light waves and chemical matter. As the light, energy, color frequency and natural power of crystals are infiltrated into the aura, the electromagnetic field around us, the mind becomes more clear and focused, conflicts seems to naturally resolve themselves and fear is dissolved. The body, mind and spirit are strongly affected by the earth energy and a feeling of harmony and lightness take place. It takes intention and intuition to fully understand and experience the holistic power that crystals, gemstones and minerals bestow upon us.
